2nd Annual Southeastern Iowa Short Story and Poetry Contest

Attention all K-12 students of South East Iowa!

The University of Iowa College of Education’s Teaching and Learning Department and the Iowa Reading Association have teamed up for the Second Annual Southeastern Iowa Short Story and Poetry Writing Contest to celebrate all the amazing young writers in the Iowa City area and beyond!

Submit your work by April 6th. 2026 at 11:59PM (CST) to participate.

First place winners at each grade level will be our guest for an evening celebration in May 2026 at Lindquist Center, University of Iowa. Teachers and families of the winning students will be notified regarding details.

Due April 6th!

All entries must have a completed entry form and an original, typed-up short story or poem.
