2016 Iowa Reading Association Recertification Credit - Heartland AEA

Registration for the 2016 Iowa Reading Association Conference for Recertification Credit from Heartland AEA takes place on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 on the First Floor of the Scheman Building in Ames, Iowa. Personnel from Heartland AEA will be available at the conference on Tuesday morning.

2016 Iowa Reading Association Conference for Graduate Credit - Viterbo University

Viterbo University will be offering 1-hour of graduate college credit for licensed teachers. In order to qualify for the 1-hour of graduate credit, attendees must attend both days of the conference (Tuesday and Wednesday) in addition to meeting with Lori Vicker, Viterbo instructor, at the designated time during the conference and completion of assignments. The cost of the credit is $110, payable directly to Viterbo University in advance with pre-registration or on-site at the Viterbo table during the conference.

To pre-register for the graduate credit through Viterbo, please complete the below registration, sign it and then return it via an email attachment to Kathy Westcott, at kkwestcott@viterbo.edu. You may also register for the graduate credit at the conference by visiting the Viterbo information table. Purposes of the Iowa Reading Association

* Serve as a professional organization concerned about reading;

* Stimulated and promote the study of reading at all educational levels;

* Disseminate information of investigations and practices;

* Maintain an awareness of the impact of reading;

* Advise and monitor teacher-training programs;

* Promote mutual understanding and cooperation among educators; and

* Promote a level of reading proficiency among all people that is commensurate

with each individual’s unique capacity.


Leadership


* Sponsor an annual leadership workshop for local council leaders to encourage

active local participation

* Provide professional development opportunities for state leaders

* Help local councils develop alternative models for programming

* Foster communication and the dissemination of information through emerging

technologies

* Continue to network with other professional entities


Educational Programming


* Disseminate information concerning legislative issues and reading research,

theory, and practice through association publications and communications

* Continue International Reading Association affiliation

* Plan and implement a state conference


Legislative Endeavors


* Implement a phone tree to alert members for immediate response on critical

legislative issues

* Provide members with names and phone numbers to take a pro-active stance

regarding educational concerns

* Contract with legislative liaison
